NWS says San Diego is in the peak of marine layer season, but why?

SAN DIEGO -- If you've noticed an increase in low hanging clouds or lingering fog in San Diego County's coastal areas recently, there's a reason why.The National Weather Service says the region is in the peak of marine layer season. The question is: what creates these hazy weather patterns in the spring?The answer is as simple as this -- cold water. Coastal fog contributes to what NWS calls ‘Gray-pril’ Air temperature normally decreases with height, according to weather officials. Due to the cold Pacific Ocean in the spring months, however, NWS says the air temperature in coastal areas increases with height instead. NWS says this results in a temperature inversion. The air below that inversion is called the marine layer, which is cooled to the point at which clouds form, weather officials explained. Pipeline restores gas flow after lightning-sparked inferno

CORINTH, Miss. (AP) — Natural gas is flowing again in a Mississippi pipeline after a towering blaze Friday that officials believe was caused by a lightning strike.The pipeline’s owner, TC Energy Corp. of Calgary, Alberta, said Saturday that it had “completed operational adjustments.” The Canadian company notified its customers through an electronic system that it was lifting the force majeure it had declared on Friday. The contract term allows the pipeline to curtail deliveries because of forces outside the owner’s control.Tina Faraca, president of TC Energy’s U.S. Natural Gas unit, told investors on a conference call Friday that the blaze caused “very minimal impact to facilities.” Alcorn County Emergency Management Director Ricky Gibens told local news outlets that firefighters were called to the compressor station of the Columbia Gulf Transmission Pipeline northeast of Corinth around 1 a.m. Friday. Federal government touts ‘final’ offer to striking public service union as fair

The federal government is describing the contract proposal extended on Friday to the union representing more than 100,000 striking public servants as its final offer.The Treasury Board issued a statement today saying the offer includes a better wage package and solutions to deal with priorities such as telework and seniority, but offered no further details.It describes Friday’s proposal to the Public Service Alliance of Canada as a “fair, competitive and reasonable final offer” and says employees should have a chance to review it.The comments come as the strike affecting thousands of government and Canada Revenue Agency workers dragged into an eleventh day.Union members walked off the job on April 19 after failing to reach a deal with Ottawa.The union issued a statement on Friday confirming it had received the government’s offer but declining further comment, saying only that it had resumed negotiations with the Treasury Board and hoped to continue talks over...

Man runs red light, dies after being hit by semi-truck driver in Northwest Indiana

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. — An Indiana man is dead after he ran a red light Friday afternoon in La Porte County and was hit by a semi-truck driver, according to the sheriff's office.Around 3:30 p.m., Brent Freyenberger, 39, of Plymouth, ran a red light at U.S. 30 and State Road 39 near Hanna Township and was struck by the truck, according to a news release from the La Porte County Sheriff's Office. Large brush fire reported at park in Northwest Indiana The driver of the semi-truck, a 27-year-old man, of North Judson, had an upper-body injury, according to the release.Toxicology results, which are required in all serious and fatal crashes in Indiana, are still pending.

APD: Pedestrian killed by vehicle while walking in traffic lane in southeast Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, the Austin Police Department provided details surrounding a traffic fatality that occurred Tuesday in southeast Austin near Del Valle.APD said at 5:18 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a crash between an SUV and an unidentified pedestrian in the 3000 block of South FM 973 heading southbound.Police said when the crash occurred, the pedestrian was walking in the right traffic lane.“The unknown person died on the scene. Argument leads to fatal shooting at St. Louis Co. MetroLink station

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - An argument led to a fatal shooting Saturday morning on one train at the Maplewood-Manchester MetroLink station.The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday. MetroLink's service has been restored. A spokesperson from Bi-State Development says officers were on another area of the same train when the shooting occurred. They arrested the suspect almost immediately as the train pulled into the station.
